Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall

A visit to Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire gave Y11 GCSE History students the opportunity to prepare for their Paper 2, Historic Environment essay question, worth 10% of marks for their overall course. National Trust staff led sessions on the New Hall which was begun in 1590, to enable students to witness the architectural splendour of an Elizabethan prodigy house and to get a sense of who Bess of Hardwick, the Countess of Shrewsbury really was beyond her initials ‘ES’ which proudly sit atop the turrets of the house.
