Headmaster’s Letter 15th July

Posted on 18th July 2022

Dear Parent,

Next week

I wrote last Tuesday that I would not be communicating with parents again until the end of term. I need to go back on that: the heatwave predicted for early next week means we have done some rescheduling of next week’s activities, as well putting in place additional measures for students’ and staffs’ safety.

We are following the government guidance [link], including adapting to indoor activities where appropriate

I advise students to do the following on Monday and Tuesday:

Fringe festival

Forget Edinburgh in August – CGS in July is the place to be! Sixth Formers, supported by Head of English Mrs McNeilly, ran an arts festival on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week. It was a carnival of colour, with poetry readings, drama performances in the middle court and musical performances on the terraces by the picnic benches.  On Thursday, we held a non-uniform day encouraging students to celebrate their culture. My thanks to all the Year 12s who led the activities, but especially to Sapphy Dunn, who galvanised everyone’s efforts.

Anything Goes

Next term’s school production seems a long way away currently (18-20 October) but it will rapidly be upon the company. Mr Harris, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Jago will gather the company for their first Sunday rehearsal on 4th September (1pm-4pm) in the New Hall. That’s the day before the students return after the summer break.

Caistor Focus

Our latest edition of Caistor Focus is on the website. [link] It is a first-hand account of just a few of the wonderful things that have happened in School this calendar year. My thanks to Mr Davey for leading the team. The editorial team, taken from all year groups, produce the paper in one day!

September 2022 Return

We will welcome students back to school in September as part of a staggered return:

Year 7 and Year 12 students are expected to be in school on Monday 5th September.

Schoolwork for all other students will be set by teaching staff and available via Teams from Friday 2nd September at 3pm. It is important that students complete this work as it will be discussed as part of their return to school face to face. Heads of Section will remind students of this expectation on Monday 5th September by School email.

All students are expected to attend School on Tuesday 6th September.

The latest edition of Careers Matters is now on our website [link] There’s a wealth of information within for students in all year groups, so please do take a look. Mrs Watson, our independent careers advisor, dedicates hours researching opportunities for students.

Congratulations to

Alice Fearn (Y10) secured a national standard badge at the English Schools Track and Field Championship last weekend in Manchester, representing Lincolnshire. She came 9th out of a field of 22 and was the second fifteen-year-old girl in the race.

Best wishes for the final week of term.

Yours sincerely,

Alistair Hopkins
