There has been a host of student excellence this week in a range of areas. Congratulations to….
Henry Cullen (Y11) came first in the North of England Indoor U17 Men’s 1500m Championship in Sheffield on Saturday. On Sunday, he came second in the 800m event at the same meet… Archie Yeo (Y12) won the Men’s U20 Long Jump Championship at the same event…
Before Christmas, six students from CGS returned to their primary school, St Barnabas and St Helena’s, near Brigg, to help at a fundraising event for a former classmate who requires round the clock care for her epileptic seizures. Year 9 students Darcey Cullen and Rhiannan Stothard and Year 7 students Millie Murray, Jemima Spencer, Katie Healy and Paige Allison performed dances and sang songs with friends from Sir John Nelthorpe and Vale Academy secondary schools. The show raised £1500 and took four weeks of dedicated rehearsal, where primary school friendships were rekindled. Millie and Darcey also gave an interview on radio Humberside.
Country cross country championship
Mrs Buck will be travelling to Stamford tomorrow (Saturday) to support our students at the county cross country championship. To be invited to run for the school is an honour, so thank you to those students who will be determined competitors tomorrow. Thank you also to parents that will transport students to the south of the county. The representatives are as follows: Freddie Fearn and Ella MacPherson, both in Year 12. Henry Cullen, from Year 11 and from Year 10, Jacob Aberra, Robyn Hanks and Alice Lingard. From Year 9, Callum Miller and Robin Smith. From Year 8, Alice Fearn and from Year 7, Anabelle Peart, Shanaz Anwari, Evie Hough, Elliot Smith, Isaac Waterhouse, Bradley Minall and Matthew Williams. Thank you to Mrs Buck for giving up her Saturday.
Derby County vs Hull City – CGS carries the flag!
A group of our footballers from Years 8 and 9 will be attending the Derby County v Hull City match in the Championship. The party will be going pitch side before kick-off and a handful of students will be carrying the championship Flag onto the pitch before kick-off. The trip has been arranged by Complete Sports Solutions to thank the students for their exemplary behaviour on last term’s North East football tour. Thank you to Mr Shutes, Mr Moloney and Mr Kay for giving up their Saturday for the students.
Friends of Caistor Grammar School
Earlier this morning, you will have received the Friends’ newsletter. There’s a great deal happening, but I would like to draw your attention in particular to the Summer Soiree, a new event planned for Friday 10 July. It should be a wonderful evening, so I encourage you to book tickets early.
Students Ben Shale and Nefertari Martin (both Y11) are raising money for a charity event for Harbour Place in Grimsby, a homeless charity that has recently presented assemblies to Years 8 to 11. They, with other volunteers, will be sleeping rough for one night.
If you’d like to donate to Ben and Nefertari’s ‘Just Giving’ page, please click here.
Firstly, a sincere thank you to the parent who contacted School to express a concern about the inappropriate nature of some images that were being distributed amongst a minority of female students in Year 10. Mrs Buck spoke to the girls in that year group on Wednesday to advise them about the danger that they were posing to themselves and the law’s perspective on the intrusive nature of the images that were being passed around. I encourage all parents to maintain an interest in the way in which their child is using social media. Remember, digital errors cannot be deleted easily!
Year 11 students will today receive their mock exam card. Our Year 11 parents’ evening is on Thursday 30 January, 5pm-8pm. Students will start making appointments on parents’ behalf soon.
Our Be Aware page on the website has been updated to include some useful information about Memes and the latest research on screen time.
I would like to recruit two more lunchtime assistants to the dining hall. More details can be found in the ‘Vacancies’ section of the website.
Have a good weekend,
