Headmaster’s Letter 17th September

Posted on 20th September 2021

Dear Parent,

With the longer lunchtimes, we’re now able to run our full extra-curricular programme again. You can see the broad range of opportunities available to students here. [link] With that in mind, it has been inspiring to hear the rehearsals for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The company meets daily and on Sundays to rehearse. Tickets for the three-night run at the Town Hall (Friday 19 – Thursday 21 October) will go on sale via ParentMail in the next few weeks. We’ll let you know via letter when they are on sale.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Year 11 will be acknowledging next Friday’s Macmillan Coffee Morning for cancer support with COVID-safety the priority. Rather than holding the morning in School, they are going to be collecting recipes for cakes and biscuits and publishing them online. As last year, they will be looking for donations to their Just Giving page. Last year they raised in excess of £700 for the charity.

Duke of Edinburgh Award – Gold Practice

Twelve students took part in the expedition last weekend in the Peak District and all passed. Thanks to our volunteers who give up their time to support students with this very worthwhile activity. They are: Mr. Cheung, Mr. Colley, Mr. Craig, Mr. Griffin, Mr. & Mrs Palmer, Mr. Sylvan, Dr Wilton and the centre manager, Miss Dodsworth.

I hope you find the information below useful regarding the safeguarding partnership between home and school. Both events are promoted by Lincolnshire’s Stay Safe partnership.

A Date with Dan: Keeping Children and Young People safe Online

Online safety can be a bit of a minefield and many of us have lots of questions on how we can not only keep our children safe but also let them enjoy the benefits the online world brings. After a remote event earlier this year, many parents and carers asked for the opportunity to ask us some more questions. Join our resident Online Safety Officer, Dan Hawbrook, on the 25thNovember 2021 for a special Question and Answer session for parents and carers which will cover whatever YOU want to know – whether it’s game ratings, parental controls, bullying or strangers – we will let you ask us those burning questions.

Sign up will be required to access this FREE session:

Parent Protect Resources

The Lucy Faithfull Foundation has produced some fantastic, bitesize, information clips and resources for parents around protecting children and young people from harmful sexual behaviour both online and offline. Child sexual abuse is a major public health problem affecting more than a million children under the age of 16 in the UK. All available evidence indicates that the risk to children has grown during the Covid-19 pandemic. Parents can learn from short films telling them what they need to know about child sexual abuse and how to prevent it, including spotting the signs and online safety.

Have a great weekend,

Alistair Hopkins
