Harry Potter night
Students in Year 7 enjoyed a fantastic Harry Potter night yesterday afternoon after school. They began with some alchemy in the Chemistry lab (base metals were not turned into gold!) and followed this with a banquet and quiz in the Old Hall. Prizes from the quiz were props in the guise of house badges and a couple of signed programmes from the current West End production of JK Rowling’s The Cursed Child. Pretty impressive!
All the students had a superb afternoon and I am very grateful to the staff team that gave up part of their time after school to make it happen. Thanks to: Mr Rob Harris, Mr Gavin Cooke, Mrs Fiona Cooke, Mr Zak Morgan, Mrs Melissa Brown and Ms Ruth Wildman. In addition, staff were supported by our Year 9 Literacy Leaders. These Year 9 students are Zamin Ali, Megan Allison, Jack Attridge, Sophie Bishop, Ethan Brook, Lucy Ellis, Eve Foster, Afeef Hadi, Flora Jolly, Tyla Redhead, Yasmine Sedaghat and Lily Suddaby. And finally, and most importantly, I want to thank our school librarian, Mrs Katherine Jago, who goes above and beyond to make this and other Library events such a success. (The wonderful prizes were courtesy of one of Mrs Jago’s West End contacts!).
A message from the Rory Longcake, of the Year 12 Young Enterprise team: Our eco-friendly, handmade bowls make perfect gifts for Valentine’s Day and Mothers’ Day. After half-term we will be selling bowls at break times so students can buy them for Mothers’ Day. With unlimited uses, our bowls make a great gift for any occasion. The bowls are priced at only £2 for one and £5 for three bowls. The bowls can be ordered through the ParentMail shop and will be sent home via students.
Friends of Caistor Grammar
Tickets are now on sale for the Friends’ Race Night on Friday 6 March in the ParentMail shop. This takes place at 7pm, in the Dining Hall, and the ticket price of £5 includes a Savage’s Fish and Chip Supper, or other meal options from the shop. The Friends have one company sponsor who has offered to sponsor a race, but they need a further seven company or family sponsors for the remaining races. Sponsorship costs just £25 and sponsors will feature in all pre-race marketing material. This is a great way to feature a business within the school community. For further information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
It was a very tough game on Monday at the Superzone final, resulting in QEGS, Horncastle winning 30-17. The girls played exceptionally well but just came up against stronger opposition on the day. Special mention should go to Freya Warne (Y8), who was named Manager’s Player and Katie West (Y8) who was named both Managers’ player and Player’s Player.
A very important letter outlining some proposed changes to term dates for 2020/21 accompanies today’s ParentMail letters. The letter has been sent to parents in Years 7-12 only. The dates were shared with the School Council yesterday. If you would like to comment, please do so by Monday to ensure your views are heard by Governors.
Uniform – skirts
Please will you ensure that the school skirt is worn to the knee. Our two uniform providers are now stocking the skirt after a manufacturing delay earlier in the year. In my letter of 19 December, 2019, I confirmed the supply issue had been resolved and that all students in Years 7-10 should now follow the expectation.
