We were delighted to welcome the distinguished author and journalist, Simon Heffer, to Caistor Grammar School today. He has been the Deputy Editor of the Daily Telegraph and is currently the senior political columnist for the Daily Mail, as well as having authored several books. He has also been a judge of the School Newspaper of the Year competition.
For the last two years, the award has been presented to Caistor Grammar School, so his visit seemed most appropriate. He spoke to our student journalists about his career and their ambitions and commented after his visit that he was extremely impressed by the calibre of the students he had met and that he thought Caistor Grammar School was a wonderful institution.
A CGS Literacy Leader’s account
On Friday 24th January, Caistor Grammar School welcomed renowned journalist and author Simon Heffer. Speaking to students of all ages at lunchtime in the school library, Simon condensed his 30 year experience of working in the journalism industry into a witty 15 minute talk, followed by a Question and Answers session. Topics included newspaper stories being taken over by celebrity gossip, copyright issues in research, and how newspaper articles can be paid for in an online society. Both the students and staff clearly enjoyed Simon Heffer’s visit, and learned a great deal about the world of political journalism and book writing.
