The Geography curriculum in Key Stage 3 progresses from the study of the local area and the UK in Year 7 to the study of European and Global issues in Years 8 and 9. The themes studied provide a balance of Human and Physical Geography and include issues such as Crime and Globalisation. Students follow the AQA Specification A for GCSE which again has a balance of Physical and Human units. It also includes a Controlled Assessment element based on data collected on a days fieldwork. At A level we follow the OCR Specification where students study new aspects of the subject such as Deserts, Cold Environments, Rural Change and Global Issues. Fieldwork forms an integral part of the Geography curriculum, much of this is carried out locally but the department has organised visits to Iceland and Morocco in recent years.
