Examinations

GCSE

Pupils have the opportunity to select PE as a GCSE option in KS4. The GCSE course follows the AQA syllabus and requires pupils to be assessed in 4 practical activities/roles, and also take a written exam at the end of year 11. In order to fulfil the requirements of the course pupils have two GCSE PE lessons each week, one practical and one theory. The theory component focuses on a range of topics including the Skeletal System, Muscular System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory System, Sports Psychology, Diet, etc.

AS and A-Level

This examination is offered to all post-16 students regardless of whether they have studied GCSE PE (although it is an advantage). Like the GCSE course the AS/A Level course also follows the AQA syllabus. Pupils have four PE lessons each week and these are divided into the relevant syllabus areas: Practical coursework, Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, History of Sport and Socio-cultural issues. Assessment takes place in the form of 1 final written exams as well as moderation of practical coursework.
