Gold DofE Assessed Expedition 1st to 5th July 2016

Congratulations to the twenty-five year 12/13 students who have just completed their Gold Assessed Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition in the Lake District over the weekend.

All four groups started their expedition in Thornthwaite, just outside of Keswick, on the morning of Saturday 2nd July.  Groups planned their own routes to their first night’s campsite at Seatoller.  On day 2 groups took differing routes to their next campsite at Chapel Stile.  Day 3 proved to be a long day and groups walked to their campsite in Glenridding (some of them scaling the heights of Hellvellyn on the way).  On the fourth and final day, all groups walked their own planned routes to the end point of their expedition at Pooley Bridge.

The weather over the weekend ranged from damp and drizzly to heavy rain showers and very windy on the tops of the hills, but the sun shone very briefly on a few occasions.

All twenty-five students are to be congratulated on this fantastic achievement.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who gave up their time to supervise the groups over the 4 days, and especially to David Buckle who assessed the groups during their expedition.
