Lower School Public Speaking

This year’s annual Public Speaking Competition was as thought-provoking as ever, with students from years 7 and 8 choosing to discuss the issues surrounding topics as diverse as the use of nuclear fusion as a viable alternative to fossil fuels and the moral implications of battery farming.

The competition was ably adjudicated by Mr Hale, sixth form student Natasha Francis and School Governor Mrs Sedman and the trophies for best team were awarded to Abby Bower, Maya McCann and Olivia Smith from 8x, who – rather appropiately for Mental Health Awareness Week – discussed whether more should be done to promote good mental health. Trophies were also awarded to Molly Davy from 8z for best Chairperson, Amy Sugden from 7y for best Main Speaker and Toby Barnett from 7z for best Proposer of the Vote of Thanks.

Congratulations to all the teams that made it through to the final and thanks to all those who gave up their time to support the competition.
