Year 7 visit Walsingham

On Monday 16th May 2016 we had our Year 7 visit Walsingham.

In the beginning we started with a visit to the Roman Catholic shrine, where we met a new host in Father Phillip. On splitting into 3 groups, 7X, 7Z and 7Y we all had an opportunity to see the Slipper Chapel, where pilgrims used to remove their shoes before the Holy Mile walk. Health and Safety put a stop to this for our young travellers.

After the Holy Mile walk, in which we were blessed with glorious weather, we ventured onto the ruined Abbey, where we were given an insight into the history of the Abbey and the original location of the ‘Our Lady of Walsingham’ shrine.

After some much needed lunch, each of the three groups, got to experience either the Stations of the Cross, the new recreation of the Nazareth house and the various other parts of the shrine and church.

Students were also given the opportunity (if they wished) to partake in the ‘Sprinkling’ service, where students could drink the Holy Water from the well of Walsingham.

We would like to thank the many staff, parents and governors, who supported the trip, so a big thank you to Mrs. Wish, Mrs. Spencer, Mrs. Cook, Mr. Hale, Mrs. McLaren, Mrs. Sedman, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Saxton, Mr. Halilovic and finally Mrs. Hoare (without whom none of these visits would be possible).
