If you were able to join us for the public performance of junior house music this Wednesday, I hope you were thoroughly impressed. We were treated to performances by 25 different ensembles gathered from the junior and senior students at the School. These events show the mutual support and encouragement amongst students. I am already looking forward to next year’s performances when we’ll see students take another step forward. Sue Baker, the head of NE Lincolnshire Music and Performing Arts Centre, was our judge for the senior and junior competitions. We were all delighted she attended.
Today we have our Children in Need fancy dress day. There were competitions throughout the day and a cake sale. Thanks to the senior prefect team and that school council for organising everything. I will try to post as many pictures as possible on the School twitter feed: @Caistor_GS over the next few days.
Toby Mason, Jayden Cheung and Jack Attridge, all from Year 7, received their student council badges this week following their election. This year’ student council is as follows: William Pein (8X), Kalo Beeson (8Y), Frankie Whitton (8Z), Hala Aabed (9X), Harry Nickells (9Z), Imogen Horton (10X), Florence Stead (10Y), Jack Scotney (10Z), Ewan Martin (11X), Matthew Fieldsend (11Y), Jyothi Cross (11Z), Peter Taylor (12FC), James Harling (12SM), Kate Bunn (12NR), Raian Jaibaji (12DW), Tom Rollinson (13GJ), Pippa Bradley (13RDH), Archie Swain (13AHO), Lauren Shale (13DS), Harriet Lloyd (13GJ), Adam Pountney (13AHO). So far this year, they have succeeded in having a change made to the uniform rule on earrings and have seen the option to wear running tights for next week’s cross country introduced. This year I am going to give the student council a significant sum of money so that they can effect some minor but beneficial changes to the School’s appearance.
Our Sixth Form council met this Thursday. They are: Poppy Bett (12FC), Jessica Jex (12JK), Charlie Maxson (12SM), Ben Bedford (12DW), Omar Khaled (13RDH), Lucy Frances (Henry King) (13GJ), Powly Wijayaratna (13DS), Christel Bazoua (13AHO) and the senior prefect team. We had a very good discussion about mental health awareness in School and I outlined some tweaks that we’re making to ParentMail to ensure all students are now part of the communication home. This will happen soon but please bear with us while we’re getting it right.
Thank you to everyone who has so far completed the parental questionnaire. Here’s the weblink again. https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/H7S797X It closes at 11pm on Sunday 26 November. I will publish the statistical results before the end of term.
The Friends held a very successful family quiz night last week. The staff team were leading until the last round but then gambled it all on Cole Porter. The CGS Archive group won so I count that as a home win. A good time was had by all. Somewhere in the region of £650 was raised for students. This was the first fundraising event for our new Friends chair Elaine Hughes and vice-chair Janine McKinsley. Thank you to them.
Earlier this week, our Senior Maths Challenge group won the East Midlands regional final in Lincoln. The team will be travelling to London next year for the final. Well done to them on this achievement!
Finally, my office is open for drop-in conversations with Year 11 next week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday break times. If your son or daughter has any questions about School, please encourage them to come along.
