Gold Duke of Edinburgh Assessed Expedition 2013

Posted on 9th July 2013

Congratulations to all 18 students who successfully completed their Gold Award Assessed Expedition in the Lake District last weekend under such exceptional weather conditions.

Students walked from Thornthwaite (near Keswick) for 4 days, camping overnight on route, finishing at Pooley Bridge on Ullswater. Students had to be self sufficient and carry all their provisions during the expedition.

The terrain was challenging, and the weather more so, requiring the students to carry up to 4 litres of water per day to remain well hydrated. Our students rose to this challenge using their training, judgement and teamwork.

Their Assessor, Mr David Buckle, was very impressed and said “the groups coped extremely well in some of the most challenging conditions I have seen in many years as a D of E Award Assessor”.

Many thanks go to Mr Buckle and the supervisory team of volunteers who have supported and trained the students ensuring such a successful and memorable expedition.
