A very successful practice/training expedition took place with 28 Year 12 students last weekend. Four groups of students rose to the challenge of completing routes that they had planned and trained for over the last few months. Two of the four groups started in Hathersage and camped at Edale, Hayridge Farm on the Snake Pass and Crowden, and finished on day 4 at two different locations near Wessenden Head. The remaining two groups completed the same journey but started at Diggle and Wessenden Head and travelled south finishing at Hathersage on Day 4.
The weather was generally favourable with pockets of low cloud on Kinder Scout making navigation a little more challenging! Navigational skills were excellent and the students worked increasingly well as teams as the weekend progressed. By day 4 all teams had satisfactorily completed their training and are now ready to undertake their Assessed Expedition in the Lake District in 3 weeks’ time.
Group 4 (Yellow) were heard to say:
“It was the most challenging DofE Expedition we have done, but very rewarding and enjoyable!”
