Headmaster’s Letter 14th December

Posted on 14th December 2018

Dear Parent,

A relatively short letter today as we are finishing for the Christmas holiday on Thursday: I will write more then.

We held our Caistor Goes Christmas event today and were supporting the Scunthorpe Food Bank. I’m pleased that we were able to support a local charity with the tangible gift of food rather than money. Students and teachers collected 1,413 food items. Thank you to Mrs Leaning who coordinated the event, which was suggested by the School Council. Thanks also to the following students and Mr Smy, who counted the food: Fran Dyas, Poppy Bett, Alex Sedman, Peter Taylor, Theo Holman andJames Harling. As well as today’s events, the three Year 9 forms have been holding Christmas Fairs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. The Middle School twitter feed (@CgsMiddle) has covered each day’s events with some photo montages. Funds will be given to the Lindsey Lodge Cancer Trust, based in Scunthorpe. Thank you to the students and the form teachers: Miss Dales, Mrs Wolseley and Mr Shutes

Christmas Concert

Thank you to those that came to the Christmas Concert in the parish church. It was a joyous event and for many, begins the Christmas season. Mrs Thompson and the students performed and read reflections on Christmas. It was good to see so many there and to see families congregate in the Old Hall for mince pies and mulled wine afterwards. Thank you to parents that contributed to the ‘mince pie’ fund and to the Friends who were on hand to serve.

Year 7 Football

Congratulations to Our Year 7 football team who beat a very strong Oldham Hulme School team away 3-1 on Wednesday. They are now through to the final 8 of the ESFA English Small Schools tournament. The next round takes place in January, with the opposition yet to be decided.

Library – audio books

I am very pleased to announce that from 1st January, students subscribing to the e-reader scheme will be able to borrow audio books as well as ebooks.  In the meantime, a guide to accessing the audio titles is attached.  All subscribers have been reminded of their login details, but if there are any queries, Mrs Jago would be pleased to help.

A very, very small number of students have chosen to have haircuts that I would describe as ‘extreme’ in recent weeks. These take the form of very short lengths on the back and sides (#1). This is not acceptable under the uniform policy. I am writing this now because it is often the case that some students will choose to have their hair cut in this way for the holiday period, a few days before we break, with the intention of allowing it to grow out before they return. I stress that this can only happen once we have broken up from school.

Enjoy the penultimate weekend of term.

Best wishes,

Alistair Hopkins
