Return to School
As you will be aware, we are returning for face-to-face learning on March 8.
This letter therefore has two parts to it. There’s the traditional newsletter below and there is an attachment explaining our plans to test students from the middle of next week to ensure a prompt start a week on Monday.
Students will be tested on Wednesday 3 March to Friday 5 March. The attached document explains how this will work. Face to face learning will start for all year groups on March 8.
Parents of students aged under 16 will receive a form on Monday. Students aged 16 and above will self-register when they attend.
I will write to you again by Wednesday of next week with more information about the return on Monday 8 March.
I look forward to greeting students next week for testing.
Careers – opportunity for potential pilots
Fantasy Wings has contacted School to find out if any of our students would be interested in their programme. Fantasy Wings was started to encourage more BAME young people to aspire to become Pilots and enter the Aviation Industry. Currently around 7% of Pilots are from BAME backgrounds. Their programme is delivered by Pilots and Aviation Experts, to prepare young people from BAME backgrounds for a career in aviation whether than be as a future pilot, in aerospace / aviation engineering as well as other roles in Aviation. It runs on a Saturday each month and is delivered by Airline Pilots, Aviation Professionals and Industry Leaders. Since beginning their programme, Airlines and aviation organisations such as Virgin Atlantic have partnered with them to enable their pilots, recruitment managers and Vice Presidents to deliver sessions.
At the end of the programme, they will give away 150 trial flying lessons and fund the training and Private Pilot’s License of 9 BAME young people.
For more information about our programme – please visit www.fantasywings.co.uk
If you believe you would be interested in this scheme, please email Mrs Bradbury at email@example.com so she can ask Fantasy Wings to allocate places to our school.
Careers – Russell Group universities
Mrs Watson has added some notes from a conference she attended on Russell Group universities. The Russell Group are the leading research universities in the UK. You can read what she discovered here. [link]
Careers – University Fair
And finally, from Mr McTernan: here’s a link for resources at the UK Universities and Apprenticeships virtual search. There are some very useful webinars and sessions on the home page. The Wednesday Webinars are for Y12 students (17.3.21) and the virtual search on University courses is a very useful aid. [link]
Caistor Food Bank
Community Action for All (CAFA), in connection with Caistor Methodist Church and the We Are ONE Foundation in Grimsby, are re-establishing a Caistor food bank. The food bank offers help to local people in crisis, who may be referred by specialist agencies such as social services, GP surgeries, schools, care centres, or simply people who have found themselves struggling particularly at this time. Our Caistor food bank sessions are planned to run on just Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm from the Caistor Methodist Hall. As with other We Are ONE supplied food banks, people wishing to use the service will need to go onto the We are ONE Foundation website and register. All information is kept confidential and only used for food bank purposes. Registration can be made at the door; and if getting to the Methodist Hall in Caistor is an issue, we hope to find a way to get goods out to home addresses. Please click here for more information. There is a new information sheet on the Be Aware section of our website about young people who are being targeted to act as Money Mules. Please read it. Here’s the link to the page. [link]
James Day (Y13) is doing a charity sky dive for Lindsey Lodge Hospice on May 29. If you’d like to sponsor him, here’s a link to his Just Giving page. [link] He’s just short of his £300 target.
There is an important letter for Year 8 students. Parents need to consent to the HPV vaccine and also that if they have any queries they need to contact directly the School Age Immunisation Service on 01522 572950, as per the instructions on the letter.
With best regards,
