Headmasters Letter 29th April 2022

Posted on 3rd May 2022

Dear Parent,

U16 County Champions

Our U16 football team are county champions having beaten Bourne Grammar School 3-1 on Wednesday at Sleaford Town Football Club. Goals came from Lucas Dawson, Rhys Smaller
and Charlie Nickells (all Y10). For some of the squad, it’s a fitting end to their sporting career at CGS before many start their GCSE’s. Mr Moloney, the team’s coach, has recorded the
day’s excitement with video and pictures. They have been published on the PE department’s twitter feed (@CGSPEDEPT). As well as the goal scorers, the squad includes: Noah Barnett,
Andrew Githu, Thomas Kelly, Hugh Mckay, Callum Miller, Samuel Newton, Chima Obu, Louie Osborne, Vaanujan Vasuthevan, Oliver Wilkins, Lucas Dawson, Ethan HolmesBarber, Charlie Nickells, Rhys Smaller, Jack Smith.

All Weather Pitch
Work on the All Weather Pitch has now been completed and we’ll soon be using it for PE. Mr Shutes will be able to confirm access to the facility once the PE curriculum plan allows. He will
also explain which footwear is and is not permissible on the new surface. If any parent is interested in hiring the venue, please contact Mr Shutes for more information.

Arrangements for exams/ PE lessons
The building work at the bottom of the School has rendered our usual exam venue, the New Hall, inappropriate for public examinations due to disruption from construction noise. We will
therefore be using the gym as the main venue for public exams. To ensure we reduce the risk of extraneous noise, we have decided to not use the changing rooms. From the start of the
exam period, w/c May 16th, students who have core PE should attend in their PE kit. We employed the same protocol as one of our COVID measures up till quite recently. We expect
students to follow the PE kit requirements. These are as follows:

Required

White/red polo shirt, with school logo
Black hoodie with school logo or 1/4 zip track top with school logo or Red rugby shirt with
school logo
Black shorts or plain black PE ‘skirt’
White sports socks
Red games socks
Training Shoes – non-marking soles for indoor work
Outdoor training shoes
Shin pads

Optional
Plain black tracksuit trousers
Black, full length, leggings/sports tights
Black or Red base layer (top)

University of Hull – webinar for aspiring medics Medicine Medicafe Webinar
Students considering Medicine at university may find the following webinar useful. It demystifies the application process. The webinar takes place on Thursday 12th May. Students
can reserve their place here. [link]

Careers newsletter
Mrs Watson, our independent careers advisor, has been busy attending the UK University & Apprenticeship Search Virtual Fair that I attended last month. The three write-ups will be useful
to students in Years 12 and 11 & 10 (start early is always my advice!) who are considering higher education as a post-18 opportunity. Here’s a link to our ever-expanding careers page. [link]

And penultimately…
I received an email from a TV production company looking for people to participate in a Channel 4 programme called The Dog Academy which is all about misbehaving dogs and their
owners. They have assembled a team of the very best trainers in Britain to help owners transform their dogs once and for all.
The series will be filmed later this year. If you would like more information please contact my PA, Mrs Coulston, who can send you a flyer. (Charlie.coulston@caistorgrammar.com)

And finally, congratulations to…
Hugo Cullen (Y10) for a huge personal best in the hammer throw last Sunday while representing Doncaster Athletics Club. His 38.12m throw is a new U17 record and gets him
close to qualifying for the English Schools, as well as securing a top 15 UK ranking.

All good wishes for the extended bank holiday weekend,

Alistair Hopkins
