Headmaster’s Letter 3rd September

Posted on 6th September 2021

Dear Parent,
A very warm welcome to the new school year; I hope that there is some semblance of normality over the next three terms.
I write to parents every Friday with news and information about what has and will be happening in School. Our website is a good starting point for events and contact information. As well as my newsletter, other communications with home will generally come out on a Friday, immediately after this newsletter.
If we need to contact the parental body quickly regarding a decision to close the School for reasons beyond our control, we will send a text message. (This is extremely rare, though.) It is therefore very important to ensure your contact details, particularly mobile phones, are up to date.
Every year we survey parents, students and staff about the School. You can see the outcomes of our recent parent and student surveys here. [link]. For students, you will see that we undertook an extensive look at their perceptions of mental health and we will be working on supporting students further.
If you have any feedback or questions about why we operate in the way we do, please do write in and I or a member of the leadership team will make contact with you in a couple of days, often sooner.

New staff
We have the following colleagues joining us for the new academic year. A very warm welcome to: Mrs Banks (Science), Miss Barratt (Environment Technician), Mrs Coulston (Head’s PA), Mrs Hutchings (PE), Mrs Lane (Humanities), Mr Rawlings (Artist in Residence), and Mrs Watts (Catering Assistant). I wish them all a very happy and fulfilling CGS career.
School photographs The School photographer will be in school on Wednesday 8th September to take individual photos of Years 7, 9 & 12 and some year group photographs too. Photographs of siblings will take place at breaktime and lunchtime. Students should arrange to meet their sibling/s at the New Hall at either morning break or 12.05pm. Absences, etc. Please can parents ensure they contact reception by email or phone on every day of a student’s absence. The email address is: Secondly, please can parents remember to make us aware of planned absences for routine medical appointments, practical exams, etc. as soon as they are known. You can access the hyperlinks to the forms here: [link] Absences for holidays out of term time are almost never approved, except on compassionate grounds. Students have lost a significant amount of time away from ‘being in School’ due to COVID, and it is therefore imperative that they make the most of every learning opportunity.

Year 7 Social evening Year 7 Social Evening takes place after school next Friday 10th September. A separate letter from Miss Turner accompanies this newsletter. Please ensure you respond to the form on the ParentMail letter by the end of Tuesday as this helps us know who to expect. Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) careers Mrs Bradbury, the Head of Careers, has asked me to let parents know that they can receive a free copy of the two STEM guides on employability and future careers for their student. The guides can be ordered from 8th September. Please use this link [link] from 8th September. Parking Please ensure you park responsibly if dropping students off. Please do not drop or collect students from outside the gates on North Kelsey Road. School lunch The lunchtime menu is now on the website. You can view it here. [link] Congratulations to…
Alice Fearn (Y10) who was crowned Lincolnshire and Humberside County Champion for 3000m and was the first girl for U15 and U17 age groups.
