Year 12 Visit to WW1 Battlefields

Posted on 15th May 2018

Over the weekend of 11th to 13th of May, the English Department led the annual trip to the First World War Battlefields and Cemeteries of France and Belgium in support of  students’ A-Level Literature studies. Over the course of a very busy weekend students were able to experience first hand the sites of many of the key events referred to in their set texts, as well as visiting the graves of some of the most renowned WW1 poets, such as Edward Thomas, John McCrae and W.N. Hodgson. At each of these key sites, students gave powerfully moving readings of their Literature texts, making this once again one of the highlights of the year for the teachers accompanying them.
Thanks must go to all the students and staff involved, the incredibly knowledgable tour guide David and the equally knowledgable driver Neil, who all played their part in making this such a memorable trip.
