On Saturday, 21st November, the English Department led a Year 13 theatre trip to see a production of Emma, by Jane Austen, as part of their literary study of ‘Love through the Ages’. One of Austen’s most beloved novels, Emma Woodhouse is handsome, clever and rich. She is also a bit of a meddler. After her governess marries with Emma’s help, of course, it is clear that she is a natural when it comes to matchmaking! Students and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed ‘Hotbuckle’s’ engaging and imaginative presentation of this important text that skilfully illustrated Austen’s bright irony and commentary on the social mores of the day.
