We offer all students at KS3 a broad D&T experience covering elements of Electronic, Structural, Materials, Graphic and Textile design all delivered with a view to developing an individual’s understanding of how materials, manufacturing processes and technologies work such that students can take on increasingly challenging design opportunities.
At KS4 we offer two GCSE courses in ‘Product Design’ and ‘Electronic Products’ which build upon the work lower down the school and prepare students for the AS and A2 Product Design course available to KS5 students.
At all levels of the school we like to encourage creativity and strive for quality. This includes quality design thinking and the detailed development of concepts into high quality final prototypes. To aid this we make extensive use of 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design software, which we can provide free of charge for students to use at home. We also make good use of our Computer Aided Manufacturing facilities throughout the curriculum for modeling, testing and final product production.
All GCSE and A Level courses follow Edexcel specifications.
Each year we celebrate the excellent work achieved by our students in the annual Design & Technology Exhibition which takes place at the beginning of March. The exhibition is open to view throughout the week during normal school hours and for one evening during the week for parents, clients, friends and guests. If you would like to know more about this year’s exhibition please contact the school and we will be happy to provide further details.
