The English Department occupies a suite of four spacious and well-resourced classrooms on the second floor of the Lindsey block at Caistor Grammar School with access to ICT facilities and an extensive library of literary texts from the Anglo Saxon to Post Modern period. We are committed to taking English Language and Literature beyond the classroom; at each key stage, students are actively encouraged to pursue a wide range of exciting projects such as the ‘Literacy Leaders Arts Award’, ‘Caistor Focus’ (the School newspaper) and the creative design/editorship of ‘Nightingale’, a gifted and talented anthology of poetry and prose. There are also numerous opportunities for students to participate in drama productions, performance art workshops, public speaking competitions, theatre trips and residential courses.
At KS3, students follow a variety of themed activities that combine the study of language and literature. Students are assessed regularly in writing, reading, speaking/listening and complete an ‘Individual Record of Achievement’ over three years to monitor progress from Year 7 – 9. Schemes of work in each year group have been updated to incorporate key changes to the syllabus at GCSE.
