On Monday 8th of July, Caistor Grammar School were proud to host a visit by Dermot Gascoyne, former international heavyweight boxer. Dermot is an athlete mentor on the Sky ‘Living for Sport’ programme, which is a project designed to use sport as a tool to motivate students. He spent the whole day at school. During his visit he delivered an assembly to the whole school, telling us all about the bravery, courage and hardship he had been through in his quest to become a successful boxer. He then worked with the Year 8 and 9 ‘living for sport’ group in the morning, informing them about how they could turn their lives around, and about the importance of COCA COLA SKILLS. In the afternoon he did workshops with the Year 10 GCSE students and the Year 8 and 9 Gifted and Talented students. In these workshops he talked and enriched them with his knowledge about the sporting world. Dermot has and will continue to inspire many students with his knowledge and expertise on how to be a better person and as his motto states ‘It is better to try and fail, than to fail to try’.
